Interview with Mercedes from Cut Paste Create
Hello Mercedes! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your business?
I live in Calgary and have been a mom for just 13 short months! During my maternity leave, I sought out creative outlets and ways to be productive and meet new people. I found the world of vinyl and fell in love with the endless possibilities.
My business is centred on creating items that can’t be found elsewhere; items that I would want to have in my life. I source soft, fashionable clothing items and personalize them with unique designs. I also create tutus in non-traditional colours for the girl who’s more than bubblegum pink.
What made you decide to start a WAHM business?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart and have run a business before. I enjoy the creativity, planning and organization that goes into designing a new piece and I love meeting new people as my customer base grows.
When did you start?
I started during my maternity leave in 2016.
Is there anything that makes your products unique/special?
I make a lot of my own designs and I tailor each one to its recipient. I also do custom designs and special orders, which makes for a lot of unique pieces.
My tutus are done in non-traditional colours and combinations that you can’t find elsewhere. I believe that tutus should go beyond bubblegum colour schemes and reflect the broad range of personalities of the girls wearing them.
Being a Canadian, I also make a lot of animal and wildlife related items, camping shirts, and hockey themed items.
The clothing that I source is soft and fashionable. The items that I source, are ones that I would want to wear and that can be dressed up or down, depending on the situation.
Is shipping available?
Shipping is available for all items except mugs and candles. Those are for local pickup in Calgary only.
I currently ship within Canada and USA.
Where can people buy your products?
What is something you love about this job?
I love getting custom orders. The opportunity to create something different for a customer is so exciting! The great reactions when client’s see their finished products, is an unbeatable feeling.
What are you future goals for this business?
Because it’s a new business, I’m focusing on getting my name known. I’d like to set up a website and attend local markets.
